Assisted Living Center

Wednesday, May 28th, 2008

ontheporch.jpgRecently I have had the daunting experience of finding an assisted living center for my mother.  There seems to be a ‘Center’ on every corner now, however research is still very important.

There are many options for assistance for the elderly. You can have home care, a nursing home, assisted living, independent living, or invite your parent to live with you. If your parent lives with you and you and your spouse work, then there are day care facilities for senior citizens that may be an option. (more…)

Daycare Centers

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

rf248389.jpgMany new parents struggle over the issue of child care; do we hire a private sitter or do we check into Daycare Centers. When checking into daycare, I came across some very helpful information that parents need to know.

Most parents want a more formal and structured environment that daycares often offer. Daycares are regulated and have to abide by state law; they are also licensed and inspected by the state. The classrooms are staffed by teachers and/or caregivers and the number of staff is determined by the number of children and their age. This is to ensure that they are not overwhelmed and there are plenty of caregivers to handle the children. (more…)

dsc00716.jpgIt is that time of year again for a June wedding. The wedding invitations are being sent out and the plans are coming together. So why do so many people pick the month of June for their wedding?

Today, June still stands as one of the most popular wedding months, along with August and July.  There are numerous reasons to choose June as your wedding month!

* The summer months usually offer the best weather conditions for a beautiful ceremony.
* The guests’ children are out of school, so travel arrangements are more convenient.

The end of the school year is approaching and some students may be looking for that perfect gift for a teacher. Many parties are thrown at the end of the school year to say goodbye to that special teacher, so why not surprise him/her with a personal gift of customized stationery.

Teachers are always in need of stationery to write notes to co-workers, parents, students, or just friends. A gift that will be both personal and useful is stationery customized with your teacher’s name, or initial. For unique note cards that can be found in only one place, visit www.invitingsmiles.com. Inviting Smiles creates their own original note cards; some especially meant for teachers. You may customize the note card with a name, initial, or a simple Thank You!

Wrap your stationery and include a personal note from your child to present to his special teacher. You may want to include other parents with your gift idea to create a more elaborate gift by including a nice pen and pencil set, or a simple gift basket with this customized stationery, some pens, pencils, paperclips, rubber bands, etc.

Your child will be proud to present his/her teacher with this thoughtful gift. The teacher will be appreciative of the usefulness and personalization of their new stationery.

When a parent has Alzheimer’s, you may find yourself parenting your parent. Alzheimer’s is a progressive brain disease. It destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior. Today Alzheimer’s is the seventh-leading cause of death in the United States.

From recent personal experience, I know the early signs of this disease are often gone unnoticed. If your parent lives alone, it is important to check on them often. However, if you only see, or talk, to your parent for a couple of hours at a time, it is still easy to miss the signs. (more…)

Using MySpace to Choose a Gift

movie-gift-basket.jpg

Have you ever thought of using MySpace to choose a gift? Many MySpace profiles will show the subscriber’s favorite music, movies, television shows and books. What a great way to surprise a friend with a personal gift.

In high school your children will meet many new people that you may not know very well. When they are invited to birthday parties it is hard to know what to buy as a gift. If your teens are anything like mine, they will give you the great answer of “I dun know”, when you start asking detailed questions about their friend’s interests. (more…)
