Electronics for Christmas
Monday, December 14th, 2009
Before you rush out and buy your children electronics for Christmas, you may want to reconsider. Not that electronics are bad, or that you should completely avoid purchasing them, but you may also want to include healthy and active toys for your children.
These days children seem to prefer to be in-doors playing electronic games, gabbing on the phone, or on their Facebook or My Space account, instead of playing outdoors. Of course this is not a problem when regulated by the parents, but too much electronic stimulation means the children are not enjoying the outdoors or doing physical activities that help prevent weight gain.
Kids are becoming obese due to poor diet and inactivity. Many kids today are not involved in any type of physical activity that helps to increase metabolism and keep their weight down. Too much time in front of the video games and T.V. set can really pile on the pounds in some kids. It may seem that this is a great way to keep your child’s attention and keep them out of trouble, but at the same time it is affecting their health.
Childhood obesity can lead to many dangerous illnesses such as juvenile diabetes, heart problems, vascular problems, asthma and many others. The best way for your children to avoid becoming obese is to make sure that they are eating right and getting the proper amount of exercise daily. Open the door and tell them to go out and play, turn off the electronics and limit their time, and get them involved in activities that burn energy as well as calories. Try not to go overboard with the electronics this Christmas and see if your children will include some exercise in their daily routine.
